How to Have Yourself a Merry Christmas with Fun Family Presents

It can be the one day of the year that people either love or dread; Christmas day. Whilst it can be a day of great food, lots of laughter and lots of lovely Christmas presents, it can also mean spending lots of money, unwanted Christmas presents and of course, the dreaded Brussel Sprouts. But whilst it's easy to let the commercial nature of Christmas overtake; it's important to remember what it's really all about – spending time with the family.

Whilst everyone writes out their individual letters to Santa this year, why not consider ways in which the whole family can share the special day together, and invest in some Christmas presents that everyone can enjoy?

The run up to Christmas can be as exciting as the day itself, particularly for the younger members of the family who have already written their letters to Santa. Of course we all know that Santa only visits those who have been good all year, but why not give something back to the big man himself with some Christmas presents that will really spread a little magic? A 'Dear Santa Mince Pie and Carrots Plate' not only makes for a lovely Christmas decoration, but ensures that Santa knows exactly where to find his complementary glass of sherry!

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a few games to play with the whole family and they can make great Christmas presents for all ages too. If you have a full house then there's nothing like a bit of healthy competition between family members so look for those games that can be played in teams such as charades or a large board game that will entertain for at least a couple of hours. If the thought of playing Monopoly evokes images of people fighting over who gets to be the little dog or falling out about who gets 'Mayfair', then fear not, a solution is at hand. With a 'Make your own-opoly', you can tailor the board to suit you and your family, and you get to decide what properties you want to use...with Christmas presents like these, you can be certain it won't be a 'silent night'.

For something a little more refined but equally competitive, then 'the Christmas Game' tin of games would probably make better Christmas presents for the family. Packed with games and jokes, this little box might just rescue the day when people are starting to feel sleepy after that lovely Christmas dinner.

There are always lots of lovely things to eat around Christmas time and although we might dread having to prepare that almighty dinner, there's no reason why you can't rope in a few of Santa's little helpers. It's important that children understand where food comes from and how it is prepared if they are to understand more about their own diets; the 'Kid's Recipe File' makes an excellent Christmas present as it helps children to get more interested in cooking - and you get to spend some quality time together in the kitchen too.

Though the drinks will undoubtedly be flowing come Christmas Day, ensure that your Christmas presents are the envy of everyone with a selection of personalised wines, cognacs or champagnes. As well as treating everyone to the goodies inside at Christmas, particularly if you get caught in the Christmas traffic and you find yourselves sitting in the car with only a bag of sweets to share. Hampers are traditional Christmas presents and can be a great incentive for the family to spend more time together during the more picnic-friendly months.

With all that fun you'll be having on Christmas Day, remember to take plenty of photographs and capture those special moments forever.
