It is so hard to tell, just by looking at its face, whether a young baby happens to be a boy or a girl. One real give away and very handy clue, however, is the fact that girl babies are nearly always dressed in pink of varying shades whilst boy babies are dressed in blue. This colour coding of our precious little tots is such a weird thing to do, although we accept it unquestioningly as the norm, a tradition, just something that we automatically fall into doing. It does not stop at dressing our offspring when they are tiny though. Oh no. It continues into childhood and often beyond. All those little girls with cute pink skirts, hair slides, tights and shoes must be yearning for a touch of purple, orange, emerald green or even black, and the boys end up in all the shades of blue available until they are old enough to choose and purchase their own clothes. No wonder the colour that remains a favourite with adults of both sexes is black. It is so far removed from the enforced blues and pinks of childhood. So, when you are considering what to buy as a baby gift for a friend or family member who has just produced a lovely baby boy, my suggestion is that you steer clear of the colour blue. Blue is the first image that will pop into peoples' heads when they hear the news of the little chap's arrival, and blue is what they will not be able to see beyond as they make their baby gift selections.
