There are several things to take in to consideration when you're coming up with birthday present ideas, obviously. One of those things is taste, some people have very specific interests and opinions and so a steamy personalised card with a hunky 'mostly naked' man on it, isn't for everyone!

It is for me, but it's not for everyone. As well as taste and interests (such as gardening or football) age can play a part, because something that would really impress a teenager like a chance to record their favourite song in a music studio might appeal less to a 60 year old... then again, it might be just the ticket.

These are just some of the considerations you'll need to bear in mind regarding the person you're trying to come up with birthday present ideas for though. Of course, there are other things to think about such as price and your own budget too. You'll need to establish what sort of interests someone has, what would suit their lifestyle and age and also consider how much you can spend on them. All of these things will help you to narrow down your search.

For example, while visiting friends recently, I noticed that she was down on her hands and knees in the garden. She was out there for a while weeding and pruning and tidying up her flower beds and when she got up she groaned because her knees were stiff from being against the cold ground. That instantly gave me an idea for a gift.
It was a kneepad, a soft present to make her gardening more comfortable. So my birthday present ideas revolved around her green fingered hobby and I got her a Head Gardener Knee Pad and Gardening Set complete with some seeds, a hand fork and a hand trowel.
That's just one example of how investigative prowess has come in useful for me. She loved the presents, too. In fact, she said they were some of the best ones she'd got this year because they were useful and practical but also thoughtful and because gardening helped her to relax.
You can apply the same investigative method to anyone and anything, if you see your work friend drop and break their mug, why not buy a personalised one to replace it, or if you notice someone is having trouble organising themselves why not buy them a fun calendar to help them keep track?
