It can feel awful knowing that you could have got your girlfriend or wife something so much better for her birthday. It's even worse when someone else has got her something you know that she loves more and which puts your present in the shade.

If you want to show her that she's the most important woman in your life, get gifts for her that really raise the bar and make a big statement. You don't have to spend a lot of money, because to an extent it really is the thought that counts but if you do want to splash some cash you can get some gifts for her that she'll never forget.

If you've been planning to propose to her, for example, her birthday, the day before it or the day after, are all a great time because she'd never suspect it (she'll be too busy thinking about her other special day!) Equally, surprise parties are not as hard to arrange as you might think and if you time them right and get all her friends involved they can be a great way to tell her how much you all love her. Another way that timing can matter is her state of mind at the time you're trying to buy gifts for her. If she's had a lot of stress at work, a pamper day might be a dream come true and could soothe away her aches and woes.

Or, if she has recently been complaining about being bored but loves being thrilled, you could give her the chance to try land yachting, belly dancing, flying an aeroplane or even racing a car around Silverstone. There's literally an experience out there to suit everyone and if those sound too extravagant you can easily come up with something to surprise her with, yourself.
If you've got a wife or girlfriend who'd rather take it easy, you can still give her an experience she'll always remember by surrounding her with close friends and helping her to relax. Breakfast in bed means more to most people than you might think!

Women in general seem to be more sentimental than men. They often seem to have some sort of hoarding need. If it's not shoes in the bottom of the wardrobe or nail polish on the dresser it's something else that they're collecting. Often, women collect things they simply find attractive but they also collect keepsakes and things which remind them of fun days, romantic adventures and the times they'll always remember.

Whether you choose to send the love of your life on an exciting or relaxing day trip or arrange something yourself, take photographs so that she has something to help her remember the day. Or you could get her another gift which represents the larger one, such as a therapy scented candle that says 'don't worry' to remember a pamper day, or an engraved star to remember a day singing her favourite song like a pop star in a recording studio.

To get gifts for her which she's practically guaranteed to love, firstly think about her interests. Then choose something special or plan a surprise for her. Finally, if you go for a surprise experience, get her something that will remind her of it, that way she can keep the smaller gift (and her special memories) forever and ever.
