Establishing someone's sense of humour often doesn't take long; or at least it takes as long as it takes for someone to either succumb to audible flatulence or fall over and for you to view their reaction. In seriousness though, it is sometimes hard to establish just what someone will actually find funny and what they won't and it is this that makes buying funny gifts so particularly difficult. However, funny gifts work so brilliantly as presents, being memorable and raising a smile, so you would not want to stop buying them. Thing is, you have to temper this against the person opening your gift in front of people and there is nothing on earth quite like the distended silence that trails in the wake of a joke that has fallen flat - actually, I lie, the forced sympathy laughs are worse. How to avoid this? Well, I will try and do my bit below to give you a few ideas for all sorts of senses of humour, as best I can. I take no responsibility for any social shunning, imprisonment or libel actions that might come from following any of the ideas that follow. Now, with my lawyer satisfied, we can start...

First, I am going to display, for your delectation, something for the fanatical sports fan, specifically golf fans, that will ensure that they can get some practise time in where they would least expect it. They can also have this practise time illicitly, behind the sturdy door of their chosen bathroom, though the game will probably be up when someone goes to use the bathroom. What makes this lavatorial joyfest possible is the Toilet Golf Set. This unbelievably cool set includes a putting green, a cup and flag, 2 golf balls, putter and also, to ensure you are not disturbed just as you go for that decisive stroke of your own, made-up Ryder Cup, a Do Not Disturb sign to be hung prominently on the door handle. In this way, you can practise your close putting in the peace and sanctuary of your own bathroom, without spectators, I mean, your house mates and family, disturbing you. As funny gifts go, you will not find many more funny gifts for golfers as funny as this, apart from maybe golf balls full of paint, but that is some way off yet you would think (my lawyer, from above, has just copyrighted this idea so don't even try it).

To broach yet another type of humour and related funny gifts, we come upon practical jokes. These are often the funniest as, whether they are of Byzantine complexity or a mere bucket of custard on top of a door, they involve a heavy dollop of schadenfreude and everyone likes that. The best of the funny gifts on offer in this area, for me, has to be a Remote Controlled Tarantula. To look at it in bright daylight and in great detail, you can obviously see it is a fake, but due to its eerily accurate rendering in the dark or just as a shock this would definitely work. I'm not saying target arachnophobes with this, but you will certainly get a great return on your investment by sticking this in their bed, on a shelf near them or even in their clothes, if you're particularly sadistic - it'll raise a laugh for you, but maybe not for them, or at least not at first.

One final amusing little gift that stood out amongst all the other funny gifts was the Mr and Mrs pillow cases. Now, I might be alone in this, but my significant other and I often do battle over almost the entire bed, blanket, quilt and pillows alike, not to mention the actual territory of the bed. In this way, you can ensure there are no disputes over who has got whose pillows and you can rest easy. Then all you need is a similar thing for the quilt and the bed and you're sorted...
