There are certain times in life when you want to say something to someone and you don't really know how to get the words out. Choosing the right words to say that you love someone or you're proud of them can be difficult. It can be tempting to get someone a gift to show you care instead and that can be a great way to convey your feelings without causing yourself too much stress!

People have been giving each other presents out of the blue or for special occasions for centuries and there was always an aim or a sentiment attached to that gift giving. Perhaps in recent times some of that meaning has been lost, but it's about time that we revived it! After all, gift giving isn't a chore or a competition; it's about expressing love, gratitude, appreciation or seasonal affection.

Not all gifts were created equal though! Not when it comes to making sure people know that you care. For example, a new jewellery box for a mother implies glamour and sophistication but when you add an engraved message which says something from the heart, that gift becomes a profound present; a true token of love. A box of chocolates or a card are nice, even a bunch of flowers but nothing can beat a present which lasts forever and has a wonderful message associated with it. By marking your words on a gift, you can really emphasise or change the meaning of something. A compact mirror which says: "For my beautiful daughter." Implies that the recipient is pretty and it flatters her, a golf set which is engraved with the words 'happy retirement' implies that golf could be a good pass time for someone who is retiring soon and is perfect for golf lovers, obviously. Or a tankard which says: "thank you for all your love, help and support' could be a great gift for a beer mad dad and imply that he's worked hard and deserves a cold one.

The way which you express yourself, by giving engraved gifts can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. You can add a quote from a song, poem or favourite film or even add engraved words which allude to nicknames and jokes. What you choose to write should get a reaction though, a smile, a laugh or maybe even tears.

We also think that engraved gifts really make a statement when you're turning on the romance. Present that over dinner and her eyes are bound to light up with devoted glee and awe. Or what about something less conventional, such as an engraved hip flask for when your partner goes camping, with a few words of love and a personal touch.

The thing with engraved gifts is that every time they're used the recipient sees and can re-read whatever message you add, making whatever you write very meaningful and long lasting.

Moving on from that thought, if the people you give engraved gifts to can keep those gifts forever and re-read the messages over and over again – engraved gifts are perfect for children. The shape of the moneybox could capture the child's imagination, the fact it's a moneybox could teach them to save up and that message you write will be there, with them forever and ever a constant reminder that you care about them. What's more, as a child grows a moneybox doesn't go out of style, even teenagers and adults use them to stash spare coins and bits of cash.

Some engraved gifts are more expensive than others but generally they're very affordable and under £30. To be able to get a totally unique, personal and useful present which stands the test of time so inexpensively is great and it's why engraved gifts are some of the best you can buy.
