Great gifts for teenagers that`ll keep them occupied | Gifts For Teenagers from Gettingpersonal.co.uk
23 September 2009
Despite the best efforts of parents and teachers, many teenagers live up to their reputation for doing precious little. Prolonged and irregular periods of sleep, insatiable hunger and hours spent in front of the television, games console or on the phone are hallmarks of the prototypical modern teenager. Whilst doing a whole lot of nothing may seem like an enormous waste of time, an uncomfortable alternative to this is that teenagers exchange their youth for drinking on street corners and having underage relations. Thus, when it comes to buying gifts for teenagers, keeping them busy doing nothing is usually a good thing.
Nevertheless, finding
gifts for teenagers
is no easy task if they already have such essentials items as a personal computer, games console, music system, mobile phone, DVD player and high definition LCD television. Indeed, if one of those items is missing from their possession then choosing a present should be a mere formality – these are basic necessities for almost all teenagers. Moreover, those who play on popular games consoles such as the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 will also require the very latest games – generally, these make for excellent gifts for teenagers but will need researching beforehand in order to ensure that they are suitable for the recipient (check content and age guidance). In addition to this, teenagers will often play their games online, so premium membership and pre-paid points vouchers (for example, those which can be used to purchase arcade games for Xbox Live) are also very useful and do not require much thought or effort.
However, whilst the unwrapping of a brand new video game may evoke a brief slobbery smile across the teenager's face, there are altogether more exciting presents that can do a better job. Indeed, gifts for teenagers need not be run-of-the-mill safety first options that have been purchased by parents and other family members out of sheer fear of getting it wrong. Short of buying a handkerchief or pair of woollen socks, most presents will not be met with disgust but apathy instead. In fact, it is even arguable whether the very latest video game would raise sufficient interest to move the teenager at all – that which is expected will not be met with surprise.
Therefore,
gifts for teenagers
that can inspire them to be lifted from their melancholy whilst keeping them out of trouble are pretty much perfect. In this respect, there is no better gift than one that encourages the teenage recipient to become interested in a new activity or hobby. Indeed, experience days can be purchased for teenagers – and older 'children' in their thirties and forties – that will do exactly this. A Karting experience, for instance, will usually cost between £100 and £200, which is cheaper than most games consoles, and is the perfect present for someone who is interested in cars or motor racing. Testing the teenager's driving skills to the limit, a Karting experience day will provide a taste of what it can be like to get started on the path to Formula One stardom. Furthermore, racing karts is also extremely fun and the challenging circuits at which such events are held will take the average teenager out of his or her comfort zone and get the blood pumping. There are also trophies up for grabs!
Motor racing will not interest all teenagers; however, as the sight of watching cars go round in circles for hours on end may be considered a little on the boring side (although racing karts is obviously another matter entirely). A more popular 'experience day' would be that of the spy activity centre, which essentially allows a group of teenagers and adults (the minimum age is 17 and a full manual driving licence is required) to participate in James Bond-esque stunts and challenges. Indeed, who would not want their teenager to drive a fast car at fast speeds before slamming on the brakes, sniping at targets from the window and then speeding off again?
In short, the task of buying
gifts for teenagers
can be as much fun as pulling out grey hairs – and both can prove equally futile. Nevertheless, there are ways to pique the interest of teenagers with gifts that are a little different.
Moreover, it is also possible to keep them out of trouble for a while or even encourage them to start a new hobby or pursuit of a professional dream. Alas, if your teenage son is not the next Lewis Hamilton or James Bond in the making, it will probably be enough to buy him a personalised 'cheeky chicks' calendar. Indeed, if nothing else, it will definitely keep him occupied for some time to come.
