How to Shop Like A Christmas Elf | Christmas Presents from GettingPersonal.co.uk

When it comes to shopping for Christmas presents, it seems that most of us buy what we like, rather than what we think the recipient will like. It is very difficult to buy something that you find really revolting, even if you know that Uncle Norris will just adore it. It is just as hard to try and avoid buying stuff that you want to have and keep for yourself. After all, we are so used to shopping for items, and only buying them if they satisfy us aesthetically. Nobody in their right mind would buy something that they did not like. So, because we tend to buy Christmas presents that we would like to be given, it is extremely tempting to buy two of everything and keep a bit of everything for ourselves. There is an alternative to this spoilt brat behaviour though, and this is a great way of avoiding buying Christmas gifts for yourself. First of all, remember that it is supposed to be more fun to give than to receive, and that includes Christmas gifts. Secondly, think of the expense of duplicating all of those Christmas presents that you are choosing this year. Finally, if the temptation is just too much, choose one thing that you really must have, buy it and wrap it up. Then forget about it until Christmas Day when you come across it, carelessly slung under the Christmas tree. Then, and only then can you allow yourself the luxury of opening and enjoying this one little treat, from you to you.

If you stick to the rules, and learn the basics of self discipline which is simply to say 'no' to your cravings for more Christmas gifts from yourself, you will be fine. Just think of yourself as a Christmas elf as you shop for those Christmas gifts, and be proud of yourself for demonstrating such restraint. Your Christmas presents will be greatly enjoyed by the recipients, and the satisfaction that you get will be from seeing your friends and family happy rather than from you owning the Christmas gifts. If it is all too much for you, you could always give the type of Christmas presents that can be shared around the immediate crowd.

For instance, a personalised bottle of Champagne has to be shared with someone. Just make sure that someone is you, by persuading the recipient to crack open the bubbly as soon as it is unwrapped. Take it off them and offer to put it on ice immediately and they will be only too willing to share it with everyone present. Give someone a Retro Sweet Jar – Classic Swirl and you will soon find yourself munching such old favourites as Love Hearts, Foam Shrimps or Dib Dabs on Christmas Day. Give your daughter a Naughty but Nice Lip Gloss Six Pack, because they look so good, taste so good, and because there are six of them. They look like delicious little pastries and cakes, and it won't be long before you can guilt trip your offspring into letting you have just one of them for your handbag. This cheeky ploy also works the other way around, so if you are a teenage girl looking for a suitable Christmas gift for your mum, this is the one for her, and possibly you. No matter who you give the Chocoholics Pizza to, as long as there are a few of you present, this delicious Christmas gift is not going to be around for very long. It is designed for sharing, just like a doughy pizza, only this one is made from fine chocolate and has a variety of toppings such as mini marshmallows, crispy rice puffs and Smarties with white chocolate curls. Seat yourself next to the recipient when he or she opens up this yummy Christmas gift and you could be first to have a taste. The ultimate chocolate selection box has to be the Choc Box Hamper. This mouth watering Christmas gift box is full to the brim with so many different chocolate bars. You will find Caramac, Smarties, Chomps, Curly Wurlies, Rolos, Chocolate Buttons, mini chocolate eggs and so much more. Nobody could possibly receive this amazing Christmas present and not offer it round, could they? If you want to take your passion for chocolate that one step further, and of course let the recipient enjoy themselves too, why not give a wonderful Christmas presents of a Chocolate Making Workshop for Two? This way, you get to enjoy this fabulous pressie as much as they will. As well as learning some of the skills of the chocolatier, you will get to try creating your own delicacies too. So if you want to have your cake and eat it, so to speak, this is the way to go. All you need to do is persuade the recipient that it has to be you that accompanies them to the venue, and you are laughing.

So you see, there are sneaky ways of enjoying those Christmas presents that you covet, without actually having to fork out the money to duplicate them.
