Nowadays, it seems as if everyone wants to be a pop star. In a conundrum of 'chicken and egg' proportions, the rise in reality television style 'singing' contests has seen everyone, from the top Tenors to the tone deaf, believing their own hype and gushing that they have the X factor. Not only reality television, but also the growing popularity of interactive social networking and video display websites such as Youtube and Myspace, literally means that there is a platform for everyone and anyone to put themselves out there and display their musical 'talent' for the whole world to share.

However, there is flip side to the global preoccupation with music and talent and that is, gifts. Indeed, someone having an interest in music, be it the traditionally instrument playing approach, or the newfangled celebrity 'singer' approach, means that it makes buying gifts a hell of a lot easier. There are books which are written by famous music moguls that pertain to lead the way to stardom and fast track you to fame (perhaps, to be reserved for those who really are desperate!) and no doubt an array of self help and 'better yourself' books and DVD's which will claim to help the musical talentless become the musical talented. Or simply buy music gifts, such as a musical themed mug, cup or calendar, or even a poster of their favourite angst ridden post teen self confessed rock chic, which may light their fire and prove impressive to the musically mesmerised in your life.

Whichever music gifts that you end up choosing to impress the music maestro in your life, take heed of the following: No matter how impressive it may seem, drum kits really are THAT noisy and should not even be considered unless you live in a detached house in the middle of nowhere, or you have a sound proofed room installed in your house! Likewise, sing-a-long musical microphones will give you 'feedback sound' and can remarkable be heard from what feels like a million miles away! And finally, music gifts for kids (guitars with buttons instead of keys, anything with lights and sounds) do not usually have volume control buttons and you will be forced to hide the batteries!
