In times gone by, Christmas had a considerably different hue to the one it has today. Whereas today's Christmases are mainly taken up by cringe worthy adverts starring the Spice Girls, rampant violence on the high street as people fight over the last Action Man and eating and drinking habits that would have made Bernard Manning feel uncomfortable, Christmas used to be all about the religious aspect, of Jesus being born, in a manger, all those years ago. On this theme, many people do feel that Christmas has become all about the commercial side of things and not about the family aspect.

The thing to factor in here, too, is that this Christmas is coming as we wash about the trough of the financial crisis, whose aftershocks still continue to reverberate around the world. The problems that have arisen out of this crisis will undoubtedly continue to pervade our lives for a good while yet and you can expect them to impact negatively on Christmas and, in particular, the buying of Xmas gifts. In this way then, you might well be looking for some inexpensive, cheap, but not inferior quality, Xmas gifts to get for your family and friends when the holiday season rolls around and as such this article will try to pick out a few good Xmas gifts for you to get you started.

For starters, let's pick out some Xmas gifts for the lady in your life, be it your mum or your wife and all in between. It goes without saying that, if you know anything about girls these days, they tend to enjoy smearing their lips in about 57 different shades of lip gloss. In fact I would say (taking into account exaggeration to the previous figure) my own girlfriend has about 55 different shades. A great little present then is the Naughty but Nice Lip Gloss set. It's not to my taste particularly, but I can imagine a few women wouldn't mind having that to brighten up their calendar!

Moving away from the women however we move to us men and I feel especially qualified here to give a nudge in the direction of some brilliant Xmas gifts, as I might well want them myself. Now, far be it from me to perpetuate stereotypes, but one gift choice here could be a lifesaver. How many times have you gone to the fridge, wrenched it open, only to look down a second later and find your feet covered in shattered glass, beer, mayonnaise and the chicken left over from the night before? If your precious beer is in danger, then I can only recommend the Fridge Monkey. The last choice of Xmas gifts here addresses the blues experienced when, after overindulging a bit over the festive period, we trudge back into work and get back into the grind.
