Last minute stocking fillers

1 December 2008

Stocking fillers are an essential part of the Christmas tradition and will be enjoyed by family members of all ages... is there ever an age where we grow out of loving those gorgeous little festive items, chock full of fun and personalised little gifts? Sometimes even more exciting than the big gifts under the tree, stocking fillers give the chance to be really creative and show how well you know a person, by wrapping up a cute selection of nice little bits and pieces which will appeal to their childish sides! Start from scratch and go retro - a big old coloured sock with some festive ribbon and mistletoe is great - or even an old stocking for maximum filling up space - and make sure you get a satsuma in the toe!

Of course you'll want your little sweets and chocolate coins in there too - and then there's space for some little toys and gifts - why not try some green-fingered gifts such as a chili or mint plant? Great gifts that you can enjoy afterward in your food! You get a packet of seeds; some little grow plugs and full instructions in a neat little packet which will fit very neatly in your Christmas stocking!

Then why not add something quirky and techie designed by the Japanese and voted as present of the year, little mopods are characters which plug into your mobile - tiny reindeers, cats or dogs - and they spin, dance and flash little lights when the phone rings! You'll never miss a call again - unless you become particularly transfixed by your little 'pet's' antics!

Girls of all ages will enjoy the chocolate and cake flavoured lip glosses - neatly packaged in tiny little replica treats and fairy cakes - very cute and pocket sized, the contents are deliciously scented and will leave your lips all soft and shiny. Why not celebrate dancing antics too with a fun little 'Dancing Queen' pin badge, very cute for a coat or bag. Or show that you've been good and direct Santa to your room with those stocking fillers in hand, with a 'I've been good' roommate sign for the door - in a neat red design with a little shoe design - very chic. Girls will also love the shopping tin mints - perfect to pop into a handbag and whip out for a bit of post-lunch freshening before the hitting those January sales!

Boys might enjoy the DIY Volkswagen Camper Kit - with all the parts you need to build your own moveable miniature camper van! That's one for Dad to show his mechanical skills on - just keep the instructions handy for when it all goes wrong! Men of a certain age will also enjoy the 'Jim'll fix it' soap on a rope - a replica of the famous badge, this soap comes on a satin red ribbon and will make the bathtimes experience more celebratory than usual!

There's also the rather entertaining 'Dennis the Menace' catapult - the weapon of choice for the popular kid's hero. Health and Safety executives around the country may shake in fear at the prospect, but everyone remembers the fun of trying to make catapults at school - usually unsuccessfully - and now these stocking fillers are available to help you pass those festive sweets and nuts to each other without actually getting off your seat!

X-Factor fans will enjoy some themed stocking fillers - for example the officially branded X-Factor key ring to brighten up a key fob, or maybe a little X-Factor pencil for budding musicians to pen some tunes - fame and fortune may just be around the corner! If stocking sizes mean that your stocking fillers can be a little bit bigger, there may also be room for an X-Factor mug - either with the logo on, or a range of famous phrases from the show.

Other more generously sized stocking fillers include the personalised diary
- showing a range of high quality images, one for every month, including clouds in a blue sky, writing in the sand, fields of flowers, fireworks and stars etc - all spelling out the name of the lucky recipient. This is a nice unusual gift which will make them smile year after year!

Busy kids might enjoy the juggling kit, with three soft balls and directions for juggling. In fact these type of stocking fillers could be good fun for all the family - perhaps after the Christmas dinner, taking it in turns to give it a shot and burning off lots of calories retrieving those wayward juggling balls, as they roll away under chairs, television, Christmas tree etc...Enjoy your festive holidays!
