Mamma Mia – Surprise Ideas for Mother's Day
Our mothers care for us throughout our childhood. They pick us up when we're down and give us plenty of sound advice as well as delivering all the necessary care and attention we need. Sometimes as we become adults we start to take our mums for granted. Mother's Day is the one day each year where everyone gives thanks to their mothers for all their hard work and love.
If you're stuck for
Mothers Day Gifts
this year, don't worry because we're packing this article with ideas for surprising her. Everyone loves to be surprised with something special and she's no different. In fact, most mothers won't expect any big Mother's Day gifts, maybe a card or a small present. So, if you get her anything impressive at all, that may, in and of itself, be a big surprise!
Surprise Your Mum
It's a real joy when you're surprised with a gift or small favour. So, why not invite some family members over for a Mother's Day meal at your mum's house? It can be so exciting and wonderful to walk in to a room that is unexpectedly filled with relatives who are all there to celebrate a special day. She won't have to chop a single vegetable or even wash a dish and she can just enjoy the company, praise and attention of her family.
Mothers work very hard all year in ensuring everyone stays healthy and happy so it makes sense that once a year (at least) our attentions should turn to her and we should try to put a smile on her face.
There are lots of ways to surprise her. You could leave flowers on her doorstep in the morning before she goes to work, plan a surprise party, book a table at her favourite restaurant or even get her a special experience day.
Experience days make extremely good
Mother's Day Gifts
. If you get an 'experience day for mum' certificate then she can choose from 40 different experiences, meaning there's sure to be something that is perfect for her. From pamper days to pottery making and from Indian cookery to flying lessons there's something for mothers with any interests.
Inexpensive Treats
There are plenty of inexpensive surprises you can sort out for your mother too! What about that good old staple of a luxurious Mother's Day: the breakfast in bed. A few croissants or cereal, some juice and coffee and you've got a great way for your mum to start the day.
Or how about inviting a few of your mother's friends over for an afternoon tea at home, with fresh scones and strawberry jam? It could be lovely and as sophisticated or fun as you fancied, an old fashioned afternoon tea with the girls. If that's not her thing, what about a ramble in the countryside or a day out at an art gallery?
Most of the major art galleries and museums in London (such as the Natural History Museum and Tate Modern) are free to visit. There are also plenty of places of interest with free entry up and down the country. Take along a packed lunch and a camera and it could be a recipe for some quality time with your mum without breaking the bank.
Great Gifts
There are a few other, equally modern
Mothers Day Gifts
that you may not have considered. As an alternative to traditional flowers you could get her a daisy pocket garden. All you need to do is cut open the leak proof bag and add water to the nutrient rich soil and the seeds inside it will grow in to a gorgeous house plant. They're especially good for green fingered mums who love gardening, but there are lots of other good Mother's Day gifts for gardener-mums too. What about a personalised door mat for her front porch or a green fingers basket, they're packed with treats for a gardener, including a chamomile and honey hand cream to keep her hands in good condition and a gardening apron containing tools.
Most people don't get large or expensive Mother's Day gifts, but why get the same old chocolates and flowers year upon year when you could get something meaningful or useful? After all the day is really about making her smile and whilst some flowers or a box of chocs would certainly do that, you could make her smile for far longer than one day with the right gift. She could be using a gift and treasuring it for years instead!
