Choosing Great Gifts
Christmas presents are just one of the many expenses at Christmas time, there's all the food and all the drink, loose ends that have piled up over the course of the year and sometimes bills increase if you have guests staying. Then there are all the cards and wrapping paper and those little things which soon add up. Christmas presents don't have to cause a major dent in your finances though if you opt for gifts that send the messages you want which are still firmly within your own budget.

It sounds silly but one of the best things you can do for your bank balance is set a budget. That's where most of us make the main mistake, we rely on credit cards and overdrafts instead of assessing how much we can spend on Christmas presents and still stay in the black!

Once you've got a budget then you should think about the type of person you're buying a present for, are they sentimental and mature, are they silly and always laughing, do they have a really big obsession like footy or gardening? You could probably write a list of names and then write a few keywords beside each of those, such as Mum – Sentimental, Gardening, or Brother Jon – Silly, Jokes & Chocolate. Once you've got a list you can think about how much you can afford to spend on each of these people.

Looking online for Christmas presents is a good idea for a few different reasons; firstly it can work out far less expensive than shopping on the high street but it can also be much faster! If you only have £5 to spend on your brother who loves football and is always late, for example then you could specify that you want to look at gifts with prices that start at £5 and you might find him the perfect footy calendar or another great gift. By being able to search by price and by topic, you can cut down on the cost of finding Christmas presents and on the amount of time it takes too! Even better, if you order over a certain amount online lots of websites offer you free delivery, so you'll even save cash on the bus fare or petrol money that you'd have to spend to get to a real shop and not have to pay any delivery charges at all.

Decorations and Celebrations
Christmas presents don't have to be something that the person loves, like some new gardening gloves for a hobby; they can be Christmas related too. Some people love giving baubles as a gift because then the people receiving them can put them on the tree every year and be reminded of the person who gave them. You can even buy personalised baubles and other tree decorations now too. So you can add thoughtful messages to make them super-unique and engaging.
Christmas presents which can be used by the recipient at Christmas are good because it gives them the opportunity to share the present with other loved ones. A bottle of personalised champagne for example could be a great gift and could be shared on the special day by a family or could be saved for another special occasion by the lucky recipient!

Booze is often given as traditional Xmas gifts and vintage wines and whiskeys make excellent presents when they come in stylish gift boxes or have specially printed labels that say a message and the name of the person they're for. You can even get glamorous wine sets with an engraved plaque on the front for wine lovers and they can come in useful at Christmas too.

Food and Drink
As well as drinks, food and sweet hampers make wonderful Christmas presents. Everyone's a bit bored of the old traditional chocolates and hampers full of canned custard and jam but you can get some stylish and classy hampers online, delivered directly to the person you love. One wonderful sweet hamper for teenagers is the Haribo Hamper which is crammed with all their favourite Haribo sweets.
