Christmas is the same every year. Somewhere it got lost in a time loop amongst unwanted gifts and reams of Christmas cards that all look the same. Whilst Dad fails to remember the last time he had to buy himself a pair of socks or a tie, repetitive greeting cards get lined up on surfaces and become an anonymous tally of how many people know your address. The kids will turn to the cardboard boxes rather than the toys that came in them and the over sixties will gratefully get away with a nap in front of the queen's speech. The month of shopping is never enough and we end up with too many boxes of chocolate biscuits and forgetting to buy something special for our partner until Christmas Eve. Annually we succumb to sending the same Christmas cards to work colleagues, cousins and grandparents alike for lack of patience, inspiration, or time. Just like the songs which get dragged out year after year, originality disappears and every Christmas becomes the same as every other, with all the predictable trimmings.
