Something a little bit different

As if Christmas and birthdays aren't enough to deal with, just as you've had a good think about what to get for mum, dad, best friend or even a work colleague this year, it seems like another birthday or event is upon you again! We've all been faced with that quandary of wanting to find something original for someone you really care about, or even just unusual gifts that will really stand out from the crowd of bubble bath or men's socks. Sometimes, you just want to get somebody something that little bit different.

Unusual gifts are a great way of getting round this all too common problem! Not only do
unusual gifts allow you to feel confident that your present really won't be duplicated by someone else, the fact that it they are different also often means they will be more loved. It can seem easier to just go for a box of chocolates, or health and beauty items. But sometimes you really want to give someone a surprise or make them laugh! There is nothing more genuinely surprising than a gift that is just that little bit unusual.

Some people veer towards an ordinary gift because they think that it is hard to find an original gift for everyone. However unusual gifts are actually great presents for all, because at some point in our lives, we have all wanted something a little bit different! We've all got that desire to do something that is a little bit out of the ordinary; think of all the times you've thought you'd like to wear something a little bit crazy or order snails in a French restaurant! When you buy an unusual gift it can be nice to think that the person who receives it will be secretly so pleased they received something that they have always wanted an excuse to buy for themselves!

Gifts that will really be different can come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes unusual gifts are just something that you would not expect ordinarily. They can also be something that is ordinary, but with a surprise twist! For example, Dad's always getting socks for his birthday; but one day, how about he receives personalised socks with his name on? You can be sure they'll bring a smile to his face! Or how about instead of buying your best friend a new handbag, you bought a handbag with your favourite holiday snap to give her a smile every time she goes shopping.

The beauty unusual gifts are that they are a great way of showing that you have thought about the present you would like to give to that person, and so they really show how much you care; like any great present! They help to show that you have spent time thinking about a present. Even to a work colleague or for a more formal event, an unusual gift can really help you be remembered as a thoughtful person and you can rest assured that your present has really conveyed something of your personality. A mug is a great present, but you could personalise the mug with the name of a work colleague or friend for a gift that will get the whole office talking.


unusual gifts are also a great way of surprising someone, and getting round those problems of what present to buy when the time comes around. They can also help you to indulge that side of you that has always known what someone would love as a present, but that you've never been able to give them. If Grandma loves gardening but can't get outside into her garden every day, you could get her, for example, a 'pocket garden,' which a great little gift where you grow a garden in a bag, and can be tended to on the windowsill or even in the bedroom!

Sometimes you want a gift to be downright funny and different, and there are so many funny and crazy presents out there that are sure to give someone a real laugh and a surprise! For a secret santa at work, or a mate, you could always get something that they'd never expect! Instead of a sat nav, you could get a 'sat nag;' or how about finger drums?! Or a door mat that says 'oh no, not you again?' Something personalised like a snow globe photo frame or a football legends commentary set can also help make someone feel really special as a result of the unusual gifts you've gotten them.

So go on, why not be brave and get something that little bit different this year?
