Something sweet for her stocking

It's always pretty safe to say that gentlemen are usually interested, and more than a little intrigued, by ladies stockings. And, while it's probably safe to say that most women these days prefer the simplicity and comfort of tights for day-to-day wear, the charms of the humble stocking have still to wane.

But what about the Christmas Stocking? It might not be the item that immediately comes to mind when contemplating hosiery, but these little festive socks are essential items during the Christmas period – after all, where else is a girl to store her Stocking Fillers?

However, when it comes to items of clothing for the feet, it's not all about stockings – whether or not we're talking about variety that happily accepts Stocking Fillers. There are other vitally important pieces of clothing that we happily place upon our feet, such as socks. Available for pretty much everyone, socks can be manufactured from any number of materials; in their earliest incarnations they were actually made from pieces of animal skin. These days, socks are made from fabrics such as cotton, wool, nylon and polyester, and are available in any number of weird and wonderful designs – there are even some that fit the toes rather like gloves fit fingers, and others that look a little bit like Tabi.

Tabi are traditional Japanese socks. And while not particularly good for use as Stocking Fillers – unless you know someone who would appreciate a pair – they are fantastically useful items of clothing for anyone who likes to wear socks with thong-style sandals such as zori and geta. However, another type of Tabi exists; used by workers such as gardeners, construction-sector employees and farmers, these so-called Jika-Tabi are constructed from an altogether more robust material, and are more likely to be worn as boots, rather than socks – especially as they have a rubber sole.

But, back in the world of stockings, with Christmas fast approaching, you're going to need something pretty special when it comes to Stocking Fillers. And, whether you're looking to buy for a loved-one, or even a younger member of the family, making sure your Stocking Fillers score well on the sweetness factor is sure to be the secret of success this Christmas.
