Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to time travel? Imagine going back in time to when you were younger and being able to see what life was like back then, how people dressed and how they spoke. Who was in political power? What mattered to people and motivated them? All of these things and more would be interesting.

To some extent our desire to time travel is explained by how nice it can be to think of fond memories. To sit and remember times gone by when you had a laugh, even if it was tough sometimes. Looking over photographs can remind you just how much fun you used to have but there is another way to jog a slightly dusty memory.

For example, did you know that you can buy newspapers and give them to people as gifts? You can remind yourself of by-gone dates by purchasing original newspapers from your past or even investigate dates you weren't alive yet.

The reason we mentioned giving them as gifts is that you can get them for specific dates, such as a friend's birthday (to commemorate the occasion) and they can make very interesting reading. The great thing about original newspapers is that they let you celebrate and look forward to the future by remembering the past.

How many times have you visited a family relative or an old friend only to soon be sat with some tea and biscuits flicking through a photo album? The same principle applies to original newspapers. They can be really interesting to read together. However, they can also help you to remember important life changing dates if you were alive at the time or be quite educational if you hadn't been born yet!

People who have an interest in genealogy really appreciate newspapers as gifts because sometimes old family members and ancestors feature in them. You could find that one of your ancestors has been in the paper due to an achievement or even an exciting criminal activity. As well as offering interesting and enlightening articles; original newspapers often have photographs and can help you to trace your family tree in some circumstances. So, there are lots of benefits to buying them.

World War Memorabilia
How things used to be may have since been forgotten and it can be difficult to describe sometimes, too. If you're eager to tell a story about your youth, or days gone by and having trouble remembering you could jog your memory by getting original newspapers and looking through them with friends. They are almost always funny or interesting even if they don't spark many thoughts or help you to remember specific events.

So, what original newspapers offer is a chance to look back on the past? Reading an old paper can feel as if you've travelled through time and it can help you to see how things have changed in the world. Newspapers have always been a source of up to date information and that makes them very accurate and interesting. By choosing a newspaper edition from the war or from a notable point in history you're guaranteed a good read and to have some fun investigating the past, too!

Show Younger Generations
If can be great getting together with family or friends and looking over old original newspapers together. These days, people don't realise how lucky they are. Following the economic boom of the early 2000s a lot of material things are taken for granted and it's all a far cry from war time rationing. Even as the recession threatens to change our modern day lifestyle, people are still far more affluent and comfortable than they were decades ago.

Showing younger members of your family just how much things have changed can be interesting. Personal photographs are great and a good way to show your family how differently fashion and you, yourself look today than you did decades ago.

However, original newspapers are even better because as well as photographs of times gone by they offer a political feel for the time. They are almost like simple paper time-capsules, reporting on what went on, and advertising everything from cough syrup to soap flakes. They are prominent recordings of our history. They sum up a real time in your life, or the lives of others.

Sometimes the best way to show your children or grandchildren what it was like for you growing up is to present some proof and newspapers make great gifts for that reason. They will probably be spellbound by the difference of language used in the articles and might even find the advertisements funny or interesting!
