Generally, personalised gifts receive far more appreciation than non-personalised ones because they carry more meaning. The real power of personalised gifts is to address the person whom you're giving them to directly, making them feel incredibly happy. You can easily personalise almost any product you buy, but there are some which work better than others. For example a personalised poodle would not go down as well as an elegant pair of engraved cufflinks!

You can also buy personalised gifts with the engraving or adjusting added to the price which is a really easy, quick and cost effective way to get good presents for friends and family. Everything from personalised mugs and calendars to champagne flutes can be bought this way easily and you don't have to hunt down an engraver or printer to add the personal touches if you buy them as part of the product.

Giving Great Gifts
Obviously, personalised gifts are more personal! So they provide a much more touching way to celebrate. If you really care about someone you want to affect them emotionally and make them brim with joy. It's easy to do that if you pick personalised gifts which tie in to their hobbies or interests and add a message to it that you know they will love and appreciate.

You could tell them how much you care, mention a fun time you shared together or even allude to an in-joke. Spend a little while thinking about your message though, especially if you're having it engraved on to a gift because it could be difficult to change anything after you've placed an order and you want the very best (both in terms of spelling and thoughtfulness!) for your loved ones.

Great gifts are secrets until they're unwrapped. They are mysterious and breathtaking when they're opened and you'll get immediate thanks for them too. The best presents for men are useful because men tend to be very practical so they love tools and books and things with simple and defined functionality, whilst teenage girls and mature women tend to love keepsakes such as jewellery boxes and attractive ornaments.

Not all personalised gifts are created equal. So, if you're thinking of getting one for your friend think long and hard about their interests and what they like to do. It's no good getting someone (who you know is a big fan of cricket) a personalised football calendar is it? That might seem obvious...

However, some things are less apparent. As a child I never drank hot drinks but I grew quite a collection of personalised mugs. They were useless to me but a personalised mug would have been a perfect gift for my mother because she often drank more than three cups of tea a day!

Even more funny is the fact that all of these mugs came from family members who I visited regularly and told on many occasions that I disliked hot drinks. At one point, even my brother bought me one, knowing I turned down tea, coffee and even hot chocolate on a regular basis due to not liking them.

So, listen to your friends and family members carefully, otherwise you could make a similar mistake! It can be frustrating when people are bought a present they don't really want and very uncomfortable because they still love the giver and appreciate the thought, but instead of being happy that they got something they really wanted or love to bits, they feel guilty for not really wanting it and have to pretend to instead.

Gift Shop Grabbers
It's sad but true that some people do just go in to a gift shop, see something with 'the right name' on it and buy it, but that's no good. If you really want to make people happy on their birthday or at Christmas you do need to think about the things that your friends and family like for a while or even do some research in to their current obsessions.

Find the gifts first and then make them in to personalised gifts by having messages, names or dates added especially for the people you care about. The message is important for a few reasons. For one: it will be with the person you give it to for the rest of their lives!

So, you may want it to be a supportive message which they can read time and time again. You could tell them how successful they are (or will be) or say how much you love them and why. Another reason that the message is important is because it could be on display for all to see. Choose your words wisely.
