The silver wedding anniversary is one of the joyful milestones of marital life and there are a number of legends and much symbolism associated with silver wedding anniversary gifts.

The silver wedding anniversary dates back hundreds of years to the Germanic area of Europe where a silver garland would be presented by a husband to his wife on the twenty fifth wedding anniversary in celebration of their years together. The silver represented the harmony that is essential for two people to have remained married for so many years. The fiftieth anniversary was also celebrated in the same way with gold. It is only since the last century that "items" have become associated with all other wedding anniversaries. The silver anniversary is considered the first "major" anniversary and is often celebrated with a party or big family get-together. This stone belongs to the garnet family, in fact it is often known as the "green garnet". It is a brilliant rich green gemstone produced in East Africa. Garnets are a symbol of truth, faith and light and as well as being rich in legend are often seen as a religious artefact. In the Middle Ages, the gift of a garnet was considered to bring good luck to the recipient.

Champagne is important at weddings, not only as a symbol of celebration and sophistication, but also of the continuing commitment that the newlyweds will make. Therefore it makes an appropriate silver wedding gift, not only to celebrate the event, but also to remind the couple of the joys of their wedding day twenty five years ago. All Champagne comes from its namesake region of France and there are three types of grape (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay) produced for Champagne. Each grower produces unique Champagnes and there are a number of different Champagnes available. Brut is dry Champagne and is probably one of the most popular. Vintage Champagne is created from a single harvest and is full of character whereas Non Vintage Champagne is produced from the harvests of different years, but still has its own unique taste and character. For that extra touch, a bottle of personalised Champagne will make it an even more special gift. The addition of a pair of crystal tumblers given alongside Champagne represents both life and greatness. Lead crystal is very symbolic as it represents the four elements of life – earth, fire, wind and water and therefore is a symbol of life itself.
