Tips for fun with face paint | Face Paint from GettingPersonal.co.uk
29 October 2009
Until you try your hand at face painting you will have no idea just exactly what you are capable of doing. I must admit that the first time I saw someone applying a load of face paint to a child's unblemished face I was absolutely awe struck at the end results. It was at a local garden fete at a nearby school. I thought that the adult who was doing all this brilliant work must be an art school graduate at the very least, and I was amazed to find out that she was a parent of one of the kids standing in line, patiently waiting to be turned into some magical beast or monster. I was so fascinated at this woman's artistic talent that I started asking her lots of questions about how long she had been doing this kind of thing, how many different designs she could turn her hand to, and where on earth I could get my hands on some
face paint
supplies. It turned out that this was only the second time she had done this kind of thing, and I was really impressed with the confident way in which she took charge with her sponges and little pots of face paint. She convinced me that after making a couple of mistakes, I too could be painting fabulous pictures on the faces of eager children and so I invested in a few pots of colour and a handful of sponges.
I soon realised that if I made a mistake while getting carried away with a colourful design, I could always wipe it away and carry on. I practised my new found skills on my niece and nephew before being let loose on the local Brownie pack. When my niece was invited to a fancy dress party, she decided, as many 5 year old girls do, that pink was the best colour in the world, and that she really wanted to be a fairy and a butterfly all rolled into one. There was my first challenge, staring me in the face. I new I could handle this with ease, and so my original fairy butterfly face was born, and has become very popular over the past few months as I paint the faces of kids at school and church money raising events.
My reputation is spreading, and friends bring their kids to me when they need to look like a zombie, a clown or Spiderman for Halloween or a birthday party.
Face paint
supplies are so useful, especially if you have kids. You are more than likely to have a time in the long school holidays when you have all run out of ideas for things to do. Hours of fun can be had creating great images on the faces of your children and their friends, and they will probably spend the rest of the day dressing up in character and acting out their new personae, which can be extremely scary for everyone in the vicinity if they have been turned into zombies or vampires. It is a great idea to get yourself kitted out with at least a few basics, to get you started. You can do lots of wonderful designs with just 3 or 4 pots of colour and a couple of brushes. You can learn to blend the colours you have together to create new colours, and you can sketch your designs and try them out as you go along. Alternatively, treat yourself to a book of face painting ideas, such as the lovely Fantastic Faces Book, crammed full of bright and dazzlingly colourful ideas for you to try. Focus on just a couple of designs at first, until you feel that you have got the hang of it. Add a little extra glitter here and there or change the colour scheme for an original design that you can call your own. With a High Density Sponge 2 pack, all you need is some colour, and you have 12 colours to choose from. You can buy them all, or slowly add to your collection as your skills improve. You can do so much with just 3 colours, but the more pots of
face paint
you have, the more you can listen to your imagination.
If there is a budding young artist in your family, or you are looking for an interesting gift for a child of any age, a face painting kit, such as the Disco Dazzle Make Up Kit contains glittery powders, paint for lips and sponge and mirror. It will keep them quiet for hours as they try out all those new looks on themselves and their friends.
