Mothers Day or Mothering Sunday is a tradition that dates back as far as ancient Greece. The evolution of the festival has been linked to the Christian calendar, whereby the fourth Sunday of Lent was given over to honour one's mother and to celebrate the Virgin Mary (mother of Jesus).
