No matter where you are in the world, you will find toys. Toys have always brought much joy and fun to children and adults alike. There are always new toys being designed and manufactured by the vast toy industry. Toys from all over the world are now easily available to anyone who wants to buy them. They are increasingly becoming more complex and more challenging for our children, but, despite this kids still love to play with simpler toys. The toys from yesteryear which were much simpler are still immensely fun and children love to play them just as much as any new and fancy toys which are available to them. Toys from the past were much more simple and allowed children the chance to be creative in play and use their imagination a lot as well as relying a lot more on their physical abilities.

One of the best selling toys of all time is one of the most simple. It is the no frills hula hoop. The hula hoop is nothing more than a plastic ring which children place around their waist and try to keep from dropping to the ground as they sway their hips, but, it is still amazingly popular. One of the other best selling toys of all time is the simple teddy bear. Children love teddy bears. They are cute and cuddly and each one seems to have its own distinct personality. There is no need for fancy technology, when it comes to teddy bears it is the child's imagination which provides all the fun and allows the child to get creative and make their own fun. Teddy bears are also very comforting and can be a familiar friend to a young child. Adults too are not immune to the charms of a cute teddy bear and almost as many adults as children have their own special bear friend. One of the first examples of a toy was the ever popular doll. Ancient remains of doll like figurines have been found at excavation sites all over the world and they date as far back as the board game which was invented in ancient times.

Educational toys have always been a popular choice and are a great help in the advancement of children. In the past, educational toys were very simple and included the likes of educational board games and kites. These days' educational toys have been taken to a new level and are much flashier than the ones in previous years. Most educational toys today are in some way electronic and many of them are computer based. They help to stimulate the mind of children and teach them vital information which will help them with their school work as well as helping them out with their understanding of the world as a whole.

Novelty toys and joke toys have always been a choice which children have been drawn to. Children love a good joke shop almost as much as they love a trip to the sweet shop. Popular novelty toys in the past included fake rubber spiders, whoopee cushions, fake moustaches and Mr. Potato Heads. These toys are all still very popular but there are now much more sophisticated novelty toys available. For instance, the fake rubber spider you would have once used to scare your granny, has now been replaced with a life like radio controlled spider which will undoubtedly be a lot scarier. Where once you would have played with a remote controlled car, replace that toy with the all new radio controlled severed hand, ideal for Halloween parties!

Old games from the past can sometimes make a return to popularity and certainly there are a few around today which we would have played back in the sixties and seventies. For instance the popular Rubik's cube has made a huge comeback and is now once again doing the rounds amongst youngsters and adults alike Top Trumps are another blast from the past which have came back with a vengeance. They are now adorned with popular new characters such as popular TV show Hannah Montana and the ever popular 'Simpsons'. These games may be very simple but they have proved that you don't always need to buy children expensive electronics and video games to keep them entertained. They will be just as happy with an action figure, a pair of roller skates or a pack of top trumps which they can challenge their friends with as they while away the hours.
