What is your favourite toy? | Toys from GettingPersonal.co.uk
For most of us,
toys
were a big part of our childhood. We all have fond memories of playing with our mother and father, building Lego castles or nursing our favourite doll as we played house with our friends. Toys help children to learn more about the world. They help to build up imagination and information as well as helping us to become more socially aware. They are also quite simply, the source of much joy and fun. Toys and games or of the most vital importance to babies and children and can help so much with their development. Lego and dolls help to develop children's imaginations, board games help with social skills and the importance of working together in a team and even video games can be good for children in moderation as they help to develop cognitive skills and problem solving abilities. What is your favourite toy and what made you love it so much?
Board Games
Board games are amongst the most popular
toys
available today. A board game is any game where counters or pieces are placed on or moved around a board. Board games are available in a huge variety of styles and range a wide spectrum of topics. Board games have been played throughout history and were even played in Ancient Egypt. Board games are a great way of including all the family in play and help to build up social skills and team work skills as well as being immensely fun and entertaining. Some board games such as chess involve a lot of skill and can help to increase mental abilities. Others like Cluedo have a narrative style and can help with language and developing critical and analytical skills. Games such as Scrabble are great for improving vocabulary and can be an excellent way of engaging children in learning whilst they have fun. Board games can also be used to teach children the importance of being a good sport and taking defeat in good grace. Many board games such as monopoly and risk depend mostly on luck and are a lot of fun for children to place. Monopoly is particularly good at teaching children about money and highlights in a very basic way how the world of property and investments work.
Remote Controlled Toys
Most of us will have at some point owned a remote controlled car. They have always been a popular toy, especially with boys. Remote or radio controlled cars are small toy cars which you can move around using a remote radio controlled pad which allows you to manoeuvre the car along. These cars were particularly popular in the 70s and 80s but are still hugely popular now. These days you can buy many radio controlled objects other than cars. You can bur radio controlled rats and spiders which are great fun and can be used to play pranks on family members. Kids love these remote controlled toys and examples such as the radio controlled spider are particularly fun as they can be used to scare granny!
Dolls and Teddy Bears
It is probably safe to say that all of us have owned at least one doll or teddy bear in our lifetime. Little girls in particular love dolls. They love to take care of little baby dolls and they love to dress up Barbie dolls and imagine and play out scenarios with them. Little boys love action men and other action figures which they can use to create role play situations and improve their imagination and creative skills. Teddy bears are even more popular than dolls. They are probably the most timeless toy ever to have existed. Teddy bears are always given as gifts to babies and children on special occasions and even adults can't resist a cute teddy bear. You can but Teddies which can be personalised with your own private message, such as the Tatty Teddy Bear Message Bear, which make a great gift for a birthday, Christmas or even a christening. They will be cherished and looked after for many years to come.
Novelty Toys
Novelty
toys
are probably the most entertaining toys you will ever own. They appeal to adults and children alike and can provide endless hours of fun and amusement. One of the most popular modern novelty toys are the Racing Grannies which are a set of wind up grannies complete with Zimmer frame who you can make race. Classic novelty toys include catapults and whoopee cushions which can be used to comic effect and provide much fun. They are still available today and are still extremely popular.
