Sometimes best friends can seem like your soul mates! They're people who make you laugh effortlessly and can read your mind (or at least your body language) so well that real words are somewhat less important. There is something you should communicate to them verbally though and you should do so at least once a year on their birthday. You guessed it; you should tell them you care!

Best friends deserve nothing but the finest birthday gifts and that requires a little bit of attention and finesse to get right. It could be that no-one knows your mates better than you and yet finding the right gifts for them isn't always easy. Here are a few pointers and suggestions.

Birthday politics
There is always a lot of birthday politics between best friends. Certain things that become habit or things which happen and can make someone feel neglected or guilty. So, you know you're buying them birthday gifts and you know that they're buying you birthday gifts during the same year because that always happens. However, often someone can end up red faced.

If you buy your best friend a £5 key ring because you don't think they're particularly bothered about their birthday and then they get you a two hundred pound extravagant 'experience day' involving your favourite hobby or a thing you've always dreamt of doing, you could feel a little guilty.

That means that when it comes to birthday gifts for best friends, it's a good idea to have a regular budget and stick to it. You and your friends you could even make a pact not to spend over a certain amount on each other. Another time that social politics comes in to play around your best friend's birthdays is when it comes to who gets invited to birthday parties!

This is especially tricky, if couples (both of which are mutual friends) have recently broken up. It always seems like a lose-lose situation. If you just invite one of the two people then you'll end up making the other person feel unwanted and or neglected and if you invite them both you could have a fight on your hands.
The best solution in that sort of situation is to invite both of them and tell them both that you invited the other. Then, if they do decide to go to a birthday party at least they can make an informed decision to be (or not to be) around each other. The same principle applies to old friends who have fallen out with each other but still love the birthday boy or girl to bits.

Choosing the Best Gifts
Once you know how much you're prepared to spend on birthday gifts then you can take some time to consider what your friend's favourite things are. What are they most passionate about? Get a gift related to their hobbies or something useful and you'll be on to a winner.

Sometimes when people need to buy birthday gifts in a hurry and they're feeling uninspired they make the mistake of just grabbing a box of chocolates or some generic bubble bath. Don't do that! Have a real muse on what makes your best friends laugh and gets them excited then pick out some birthday gifts that speak directly to their hearts.

If you have a friend who is just full of energy and is constantly bouncing off the walls, one of the most funny birthday gifts you could get them might be a space hopper! They include a hand pump and you can get them for under £17 each which makes them perfect for best friends who are full of beans.

Equally, if you're looking for gifts to tickle your best friend's funny bone and she's having man trouble you could get her a control-a-man remote controller for under £5. Or, if she's decided to get a divorce then what about an ex husband voodoo doll? You can also get the 'ex wife' voodoo doll and there's a new equally silly 'new husband version' where by sticking in pins, you're hopefully going to get some extra flowers or a foot rub.

As well as silly gifts (and a good laugh!) best friends always appreciate spending quality time with you. So, we think that the best gifts to get a best friend are probably experience days for 2 where you can learn to cook, dance or make chocolate together, have a duo photo shoot or even sing and record your favourite song.
