You purposely leave it to last. The present you don’t want to open because you know you’re going to hate it. And the person who has bought it for you is sitting opposite. You plaster a smile onto your face and rip in to the wrapping paper.

Yep you hate it. And now you’re worried that listing all the reasons why you love it is starting to sound sarcastic.

You mentally work through a list of people you could re-give the gift to – at least it could save you some money. You then convince yourself that whoever you give it to will somehow know that it’s a recycled gift.

A quick internet search tells you that it was actually quite expensive. You instantly like it more.

No. No matter how hard you try, you still hate it. But there’s someone out there who will love it. Thank goodness for ebay.

The prospect of making a bit of extra money has got you a bit giddy. You decide to list your unwanted present on ebay right away.

You already have one watcher – how exciting! Now you’re looking at all of your other gifts wondering which ones you could sacrifice. You quickly price them up in your head.

You have no Christmas presents left. Your husband asks when you’re going to wear the cashmere jumper he bought you. You tell him tomorrow and promptly delete its listing off ebay. Maybe you got a bit carried away…
