Trendy new burger bars seem to be popping up all over the place, don’t they? And while it’s nice to dine out every now and again, there’s nothing like cooking your favourite treats from scratch in the comforts of your own kitchen and enjoying them with the whole family.
We don’t think you can beat a homemade burger and this simple recipe is fun, quick and easy to make. Plus, the burgers are delicious!
Put all of the burger ingredients except the mozzarella into a large mixing bowl and mix together.
Take a small slice or ball of mozzarella in your hand and then form the mince mixture into a ball around the cheese. The aim is to “hide” the mozzarella with enough mince so that the cheese can’t be seen. Once cooked, you’ll have delicious melted cheese in the middle of your burger!
Shape the ball into a burger patty and place it onto a plate. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have 4 - 6 burger patties.
If you have time, pop the patties in the fridge to help them firm up before cooking.
Drizzle each patty with olive oil and then either fry them in a griddle pan (3 - 4 minutes on each side) or pop them under the grill for 15 – 20 minutes, turning them halfway through. If you’re serving your burger with bacon, now’s the time to fry it.
To serve, halve your burger bun and lightly toast it in the pan with a drizzle of oil. Place your burger in the bun and add sliced lettuce, tomatoes, gherkins, and a slice of crispy bacon. Don’t forget to add a squirt of dad’s favourite relish or sauce on top of his burger!
