Behind The Brand: Merci Maman
My name is Béatrice de Montille and I founded Merci Maman in 2007 after struggling to find the perfect stylish, high quality, personalised gift for a friend who had just given birth. 11 years later, Merci Maman has offices in London, Paris and Berlin and a team of over 40 people. Merci Maman is very much a family business, which is emphasised by the fact that both myself, my husband, and even my four children, play an active role in the running of the business everyday.
In 2017 we were honoured with the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade. We received the award at Buckingham Place where we met the Queen!
Tell us a little bit about Merci Maman for anyone who hasn’t heard of the brand
Merci Maman is a personalised jewellery company that aims to celebrate the special bond between loved ones. Our 18K gold plated and 925 sterling silver pieces are classic, wearable and completely unique due to the personalisations that our customers choose. We individually hand engrave every order in our French cursive style to create a beautiful gift that will be treasured forever.
What’s involved in creating a new piece of jewellery?
Each piece of jewellery created by Merci Maman is hand engraved in our London studio. Every aspect of the production process, from receiving the order to being packaged in one of our signature orange boxes, is carefully curated by our dedicated team to make a unique keepsake.
Do you have any tips for people buying jewellery for a loved one?
We are all about personal, sentimental jewellery and believe the best gift is one that will really make someone smile when they open the box.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
At Merci Maman everyone is involved in brainstorming ideas for new collections and special occasions such as Mother’s Day and Christmas. I love developing new ideas with the Merci Maman team and seeing them sent out to our wonderful customers to cherish.
Are there any jewellery trends for the coming year we should look out for?
Of course we would always say that personalised jewellery is the key trend of 2019! Keepsake pieces that carry sentimental meaning never go out of fashion.
If you had to pick your favourite piece which would you pick?
If I had to pick my favourite piece from the Merci Maman collection it would have to be our Eternity Trio Necklace. I have one of my own with the names of my four children. With its three perfectly proportioned concentric circles, there is plenty of space to add names of loved ones, memorable locations or a personal quote.
