Our Favourite Contestants Ever!

They might not have won The Great British Bake Off, but they won our hearts, and are our favourite Great British Bake Off contestants ever!

Do You Remember These Faces?

We’re sure you have your own personal favourite moments from The Great British Bake Off over the years, but we thought we’d round up some of the funniest moments so far. How could we have forgotten custardgate!

Brendan Lynch

Series Three

Brendan Lynch

Brendan made it to the final of series 3 in 2012 and even though he didn’t win, he was one of the most loved contestants of that year. His creations always gave a nod to a by gone era, especially the 70s and even though they always seemed to taste good, he always lost marks for presentation.

Diana Beard

Series Five

Diana Beard

Who doesn’t remember the infamous #bingate disaster that occurred in 2014 when Diana Beard, the show’s oldest contestant accidently removed fellow contestants Iain Watters Baked Alaska from the freezer before it was completely set. This small mistake resulted in Iain throwing his bake away before he could present it to the judges. Diana’s reaction when she found out what had happened is nothing but priceless and it was all anyone could talk about for a few days (Iain Watter even made it onto Newsnight following the episode being aired).

James Morton

Series Three

James Morton

Scottish Medical student, James made it to the final of series three and is not only remembered for his love of knitted jumpers and cardigans but also for his strange use of local ingredients such as whiskey and heather. The judges were never quite sure what they were going to get!

Howard Middleton

Series Four

Howard Middleton

Before Iain Watters’ #bingate an even more controversial conspiracy / sabotage incident occurred #custardgate. The shocking moment, Howard realised that another contestant had accidently used his custard instead of their own in a trifle was shocking news to all. Though unlike Iain Watters rather than throwing his trifle in the bin, Howard trooped on and presented his creation for judging, even if the custard was a little runnier than his original would have been. Go Howard!

Norman Calder

Series Five

Norman Calder

We’re not quite sure how Norman managed to make it into the final 12 in 2014 but we have a feeling it may have been because of his enthusiasm and love of baking. Even if he wasn’t the best in the series, we all still loved watching him as he represented the majority of the UK in the kitchen; we try but something always seems to go wrong!
