Mother's Day Expectations Vs Reality

Ah, Mother’s Day. It’s the one day a year mum can expect to be treated like the queen she is. Yet in reality, things never quite go to plan, do they…

Expectation:
Breakfast In Bed

What better way to welcome in Mother’s Day than waking up after 9AM for once and tucking into the breakfast in bed the kids have secretly made?

Reality:
A 7AM Wake Up Call

Who were you kidding? They ping awake at their usual time, with not a croissant or a cup of tea in sight. Sigh.

Expectation:
Being Treated To A Spa Weekend

Over the last couple of weeks, you’ve repeatedly mentioned that you’ve always wanted to book a relaxing spa break at a countryside hotel. Surely they got the hint?

Reality:
Receiving Slippers (Again!)

Wrong. Judging by the shape of the wrapping paper, they’ve opted to replace your slippers. On the plus side, they’re much nicer than the disposable slip-ons you would’ve had at the spa…

Expectation:
A Long Hot Soak In A Bubble Bath

There’s nothing quite like being covered in bubbles, surrounded by candles, with some soothing music to help you drift off into faraway lands…is it too early for wine?

Reality:
No Time To Even Wash Your Hair

And there’s nothing quite like a bit of dry shampoo to mask the fact that your bath was cut short thanks your little bundles of joy.

Expectation:
A Clean & Tidy House

No socks in the bathroom, no dishes in the sink and not a speck of dust in sight…you must be dreaming, surely?

Reality:
Toys. Everywhere

As you stub your toe a train set in the hallway on your way to do the dishes you realise you are most definitely not dreaming.

Expectation:
Dinner At Your Favourite Restaurant

You’ve been craving Giovanni’s creamy carbonara since the last time you were there. And don’t even get you started on their garlic bread…mmm. You can almost taste the deliciousness…

Reality:
Overcrowded All You Can Eat Buffet

You’ve had your eyes closed, on request, for the whole car journey. When you open them, you realise with a sinking stomach that you’re in the buffet car park. You pretend you didn’t see the ‘Mother’s Day Special’ sign.
